Your breath is a powerful tool for managing stress and increasing calm and resilience. It can be fast and effective. However, you may not have been getting its full benefit!
-
Has it been hard to find a breathing technique that works for you?
-
Do you find it challenging to keep up a breathing practice, despite hearing that it’ll bring you peace and ease your anxiety?
Was one of your new year’s resolutions to manage your stress better, do more self-care and set up a regular meditation or breathing practice? Did it fizzle out, especially if you weren’t seeing the benefits you were hoping for quickly enough.
Do breathing practices make you restless, or they just don’t seem to work? It might even be they make you more anxious. This is not uncommon.
There is no one magic right way to breathe that will reduce everyone’s anxiety and stress and make everyone feel calmer.
Popular techniques like mindfulness of the breath, slow breathing, box breathing and 4,7,8 breathing provide many people relief, but not everyone.
If you have not been able to stay motivated to maintain a regular practice it might be that you’ve not found the right techniques for you. Did you know that breathing is meant to change to fit with our different states throughout the day or week? Did you know that a range of breathing techniques work better than rigid adherence to a single breathing method?
Finding the techniques that will work for you depends on you getting to know more about your personal breathing style, whether you have dysfunctional breathing and how it interacts with your stress response.
In this workshop you will learn some of the practical ways that breathing is related to stress and anxiety. We will practice a number of science based breathing techniques and you will learn how to identify the techniques most likely to work for you. You will learn different ways to regulate breathing and stress. We will also look at the different elements you need to motivate yourself to building a regular practice.
There is more and more research showing how and why breathing techniques work for reducing anxiety and stress and building resilience. Some of this research has shown that a brief 5 minute breathing sequences of 3 or 4 techniques can be more effective than meditation for short term relief of stress.
