This course provides a practical and clinically focused introduction to Integrative Breathing Therapy (IBT) and Dr Courtney’s multi-dimensional model of dysfunctional breathing.

The course will focus on the role of breathing dysfunction and breathing retraining in upper airway and oral motor function, craniofacial development and sleep disordered breathing.

In this course Dr Courtney will teach her clinical protocols for functional nasal and upper airway rehabilitation. She will also teach a simple version of the Manual Assessment of Respiratory Motion (MARM), an evidence based technique for assessing functionality of breathing pattern. The course also includes her Breathing Basics protocol with a focus on how to restore functional and coordinated whole body breathing.

  • Understand Dr Courtney’s multi-dimensional model of dysfunctional breathing.

  • Learn the practical significance and interactions of the biochemical, biomechanical and psychophysiological dimensions of breathing for breathing therapy and for nasal and upper airway rehabilitation.

  • Understand the key concepts and techniques for assessing hyperventilation, breathing pattern disorders and unexplained breathing symptoms and behaviours.

  • Apply IBT protocols for nasal and upper airway rehabilitation.

  • Apply Breathing Basics protocol with adaptations for optimising upper airway and tongue function.
